NY在住アーティスト、シャンテル・マーティンの作品は常に観客を巻き込んでクリエートされるソーシャルアートといっても過言ではない。そんなシャンテルがこの度デニムコンセプトストア＆アートギャラリー3x1とのコラボレーションに乗り出しました。

 名だたるデニムブランドEarnest Sewn とPaper Denim & Clothの創設者スコット・モリソンのニュープロジェクトがこの3x1。ニューヨークから消えて久しい製造や職人技を呼び戻し、コンシャスなものづくりを発信するためあえてショップという形にこだわりました。

そのコンセプト通り、すっきりしたデザインのストアにはガラスケースにデニムが飾られ、限定アイテムのアート本やアクセサリー、そして奥にはガラス越しに小さなデニム工場が控えています。ここでオーダーされたデニムは一人の裁縫師により最初から最後まで丁寧に作られ、顧客はメイド・トゥ・メジャーからビスポークまで様々なスタイルでデニムをオーダーできます。

 シャンテルは自分のアート同様3x1で作られるデニムが顧客参加型だということに強い共感を覚えたと言います。また、最後のディテールまでとことんこだわるスタイルも自分と同じだと感じたそうです。コラボレーションをしている時こそ自分のアートが一番いきると断言するシャンテルにとって、3x1と一緒にクリエーションをするというのは当然の選択だったのかもしれません。

またスコットが目指すコンシャスなアプローチもシャンテルにとっては洋服をまとうように自然なことだと言います。この度もコラボレーションジーンズとLa Laboキャンドル（外装をシャンテルがデザイン）の売り上げの一部はPrint 4 ChangeのNPOパートナーであるHealing Haitiと Opportunity Internationalに寄付されるとのことです。
